Stars honour our champs

Star performers at previous Children's Champions Awards have included McFly, Westlife, the Sugababes, Daniel Bedingfield, Ronan Keating and Last Choir Standing judge Russell Watson and we're planning something just as big this year.

In the audience you could be sitting with - and chatting to - famous faces from X Factor, Strictly Come Dancing, EastEnders, Corrie and Emmerdale.

Then there are the sports stars who turn up to have a brilliant time.

Our guests so far have included England captain John Terry,  England manager Fabio Capello, Spice Girl Emma Bunton, Britain's Got Talent star Amanda Holden, Chelsea hero Frank Lampard,  England manager Fabio Capello, and cricket giants Freddie Flintoff and Steve Harmiston.

Here's what just a few of our guests had to say after the 2008 awards, held last March:

"I have not been in Britain  for so very long but  Children's Champions has showed me what an amazing country this is. These people really must be congratulated."
-Fabio Capello (above)

Coming back here to perform as an established artist really is special and it's so nice to be able to make the winners' night one to remember. Listening to why they're all here tonight has been extremely touching and I'm thrilled to be part of this big night. Thanks News of the World!"

"It's been quite simply an amazing night, extremely moving and humbling."
-Gloria Hunniford

"What a wonderful evening and thank you so much for having me along to celebrate with these inspiring winners on their big night. I didn't expect to be moved tonight but it's impossible not to be when you hear the stories behind their success."

"Children's Champions is amazing.  You can see how much it means to  all the youngsters.  And it's certainly been a privilege to meet the winners."

I'm just please that these Awards are now firmly fixed in the calendar as something to look forward to and celebrate. I'm proud and delighted to part of something so worthwhile.''
-Linda Lusardi

''When you've got kids you realise how valuable it is to have Champions in their lives - and the winners I've met have been very special indeed.''

Nominations for Children's Champions Awards have now closed. But as a reminder, here are the categories...

MEDICAL AWARD

OUR Medical Award honours any health worker who's done miracles for kids. It may be a surgeon, a nurse, a GP, a home visitor, a hospital cleaner-the list of possible Champs is endless.

POST OFFICE ® AWARD

THIS award is particularly supported by the Post Office®  for one of their colleagues who really delivers for kids. Maybe he or she is the postie you see every day, or a terrific member of a Post Office®  team, perhaps the person who brings you your parcels or, in a sorting office, the one who goes the extra mile so that kids' scrawled envelopes get to the right address.

999 AWARD

THIS award recognises any police officer, fire or ambulance crews, or any emergency services member who works hard for kids. Maybe they saved your child's life when all hope was lost.

CHILDREN'S AWARD

OUR Children's Award is for a youngster, aged 16 or under, who helps other young people, perhaps by example, maybe through fundraising or by caring heroically for other kids in the family. We welcome all examples of young Champs.

SCHOOLS AWARD

OUR Schools Award is for someone who works tirelessly against all the odds to make your kids' school life better - anyone from the tireless cleaner to a special teacher, from lollipop lady to headmaster.

SPORTS AWARD

As we move towards the 2012 London Olympics, this recognises inspirational people who dedicate their lives to helping young people in grassroots sport.

INDIVIDUAL AWARD

THE Individual Award is for ANY member of the public who has provided outstanding help to children in general. Previous winners, for example, have included a brilliant foster mum and a lady who protects abused youngsters. The judges also reserve the right to make extra awards at their discretion.
