Meet the judges

JAYNE TORVILL

Olympic champion and star of ITV's Dancing on Ice

"At the 2009 Awards, Chris and I presented the trophy to Britain's Children's Champion Emma-Jane Cross for her campaign against bullying.

"It was an astonishing night and we were very proud to be a part of it. All the winners were amazing.

"When you watch the Awards on TV next March make sure you have a box of tissues - there are some wonderfully weepy moments, and some bits that had us all on our feet cheering and clapping.

"Being a judge is going to be a tough task - but I can't wait."

CHRISTOPHER DEAN

Olympic champion and star of ITV's Dancing on Ice

Last year was our first time at the Awards and, in truth, we didn't know what to expect.

We knew we'd meet some special people - but I don't think we realised how special, and how much they would touch our lives.

No one who as been part of these Awards will ever forget them. The chance to judge the winners is humbling, but I'm really looking forward to the task ahead.

SARAH BROWN

Charity champion and wife of Prime Minister Gordon Brown

"Children's Champions is a very special event - and all those who are nominated are extraordinary people.

The adversity they face brings tears to your eyes - and their triumphs make you want to cheer out loud.

"I've been privileged to be a judge for these Awards for the past two years. Choosing is never easy, but meeting the winners is a delight. I'm looking forward to it immensely."

EMMA BUNTON

TV star, presenter and singer

"As a mum I can't help but be moved by the winners' stories I've heard in previous years helping judge Children's Champions.

"Children are central to all we do - and what award winners do for youngsters is truly admirable.

"This is a great event and I know everyone will be rooting for the people they've nominated - all of them go that extra mile for kids.

"Judging is always difficult - you're chosing between the very best, but I'm certain this year's winners, like every other, will be truly inspirational."

CHRISTINE BLEAKLEY

Co-host of BBC1's The One Show

"I'm thrilled to be taking part in such a great event with the News of the World and Barnardo's.

"Children's Champions is a brilliant opportunity for us all to pay tribute to people who go that extra mile for youngsters and there have already been some extraordinary nominations.

"I think the judging will be incredbily difficult as there are so many worthy cases, but what will emerge will be a stunning group of very special people."

ANGELA GRIFFIN

TV star and host of Sky 1 chat show Angela and Friends

I know we're going to get some great entries. I've seen previous Children's Champions Awards on TV, so I'm hoping for nominations that send shivers down my spine.

Being a mum myself, I know how important it is to have great and special people in your children's lives.

One thing's certain, the winners are going to have a night they'll never forget.

My good friend Amanda Holden is presenting the Awards with Chris Evans this year and I know how excited she gets at this event - and now I'm involved too, I can't wait to meet all the winners.

PETER ANDRE

Singer, TV star and former Father of the Year

"I'm very excited and very proud to be part of these Awards.

"What I like best about Children's Champions is everything about it is positive, every nominee has done something incredible.

"As a father it means the world to me that there are people out there devoting their lives to making this country a better place for kids."

DR DAVID BARNARDO

A descendant of the original Dr Barnardo

"Children's Champions rewards ordinary people doing extraordinary things for some of the most vulnerable in our society - our children.

"I've been a judge at these Awards since the very beginning. It's never easy - but nor should it be. Every person nominated is doing wonderful work which humbles and inspires us."

ADAM CROZIER

Chief executive of Royal Mail Group

"Children's Champions is now a firm favourite in the social action calendar for Royal Mail and Post Office colleagues.

"Having been a judge for the past two years, it is always inspiring to learn about the people who are so selfless in giving to others.

"Awards like this are so important in recognising the incredible role that many people play in supporting children who are experiencing difficulty or disadvantage in their lives.

"Colleagues at Royal Mail Group voted overwhelmingly for Barnardo's to be our major supported charity partner, and I'm delighted that this year we are able to use the event to raise money for the charity and to recognise individuals who work tirelessly for Barnardo's young people."

DAME KELLY HOLMES

Olympic heroine and the Government's School Sports Champion

The stories touch my life,” she said.

“There are so many special people our there - it’s right that they get the recognition they deserve.

"Of course I'm very close to the Sports Award - I believe that the many thousands of people who work at the grassroots of sport in Britain are at the heart of all that is good about this country, as are every other winner of an Award.

"Judging remains one of the most worthwhile tasks of my year."
